It’s been one week since the disappearance of Orangeville resident
Sonia Varaschin and in her absence, the community is rallying together.
A
Facebook group dedicated to the 42-year-old nurse is swelling with more than 1, 900 members and countless wall posts.
“Keeping positive always...prayers and thoughts go out to family and friends...come home Sonia,” wrote Nancy Hart.
“Living in Niagara, and having gone through the same fears you are all having, my thoughts are with you. Bless you all, who are living there, or waiting for news or are searching for her. This is a difficult time for all involved and for everyone in Ontario. She is one of us, and she is missing!” wrote Bonnie Carey
Varaschin was reported missing Monday after she failed to show up for work. Her car was found smeared with blood near Orangeville’s main square early Monday morning and police later found blood in and around her home.
Authorities admitted Tuesday the nurse had met with foul play. On Thursday it was revealed the woman’s family has been told to expect the worst.
Police have stated that Varaschin’s long-term boyfriend was routinely questioned and ruled out as a suspect.
Concerned members of the community have planned to light a candle for Varaschin at 7pm Sunday evening.
A more formal candlelight vigil was planned at Orangeville’s town hall. However, it was reportedly cancelled at the request of Varaschin’s family.
