Police have provided few details about the body found Sunday in a rural area east of Orangeville, on a sideroad in Caledon, or whether this discovery is linked to the disappearance of 42-year-old Sonia Varaschin.
A forensic autopsy will take place Tuesday in Toronto. Authorities say they will not have an identification until the exam is complete.
Around 9am Sunday morning, a local resident was walking their dog along Beech Grove Sideroad when they made the grisly discovery and phoned police.
OPP Const. Jonathan Beckett told media officials police had alerted the Varaschin family to the news, but that didn’t mean a direct link.
Varaschin was reported missing one week ago after she failed to show up for work. Her car was found smeared with blood near Orangeville’s main square early Monday morning and police later found blood in and around her home.
Authorities admitted Tuesday the nurse had met with foul play. On Thursday it was revealed the woman’s family has been told to expect the worst.
The family is said to be gathered at the Albion home of Sonia’s mother waiting for further news.
They continue to ask for privacy.
