An autopsy has confirmed that human remains found near Orangeville, Ontario belong to 42-year-old Sonia Varaschin.

Varaschin was reported missing eight days ago. Her death has been ruled a homicide, but a cause of death hasn't been released.

Varaschin's loved ones are requesting privacy as they come to grips with a terrible tragedy.

The missing woman's car was found smeared with blood near Orangeville’s main square on August 30 morning and police later found blood in and around her home.

The next day, authorities said the nurse had met with foul play.

On September 5th a person walking their dog came across the remains and called police.

The crime has rattled a tight-knit community.

"Orangeville used to be a town where everything was safe. Everybody knew everybody, we could leave our doors open," resident Tracey Vail told CityNews.

"Now you wonder. It leaves me feeling very unsafe," she added.
