A 55-year-old Oshawa man lost a piece of his ear during a robbery early Monday morning.

Around 4am, the victim arrived at an apartment in a house on Celina Street to deliver a package. But the couple living there surprised him, allegedly stealing his money and goods.

The victim resisted, and during the struggle the accused bit off a piece of the victim’s ear and banged his head against something hard.

The victim escaped and took a taxi to a nearby residence, where he called police. He was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and released.

Police charged both Virginia Cochrane, 27, and Abel MacNeil, 28, with robbery and MacNeil with the further offence of aggravated assault. They are in custody awaiting their bail hearing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2711.  Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or on the website at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
