She’s spent much of her career chatting up the who’s who of Hollywood, but now, former Citytv entertainment reporter Liz West is attempting to go from Tinsletown to Toronto city council.
West is running for election in the
Ward 30 Toronto-Danforth riding.
“As a member of city council, I will defend the needs of working families,” said West in a statement. “It’s time to reinstate accountability and get back-to-basics at City Hall.”
She’s up against a political heavyweight in incumbent Paula Fletcher. The two-term councillor won in 2006 with a whopping 60 per cent of the vote and is married to John Cartwright, head of the powerful Toronto and York Region Labour Council.
Fletcher isn’t the only competition. Four other candidates registered in Ward 30 are: Mark Dewdney, Andrew James, Angie Tingas and Gary Walsh.
West says her interest in politics started to develop after the birth of her children, Parker, 4, and Ava, 2. She’ll officially kick-off her campaign this Saturday with an event at 821 Gerrard St. East.
If West manages to pull off a victory, she’ll join Adam Vaughan as the second former Citytv personality on council. The former political reporter won the
Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina seat in 2006.
