The province’s Special Investigations Unit is looking into a police shooting in Etobicoke that left a 26-year-old man dead.

Around 1:15am Wednesday, the Toronto police Emergency Task Force and Guns and Gangs squad raided a residence at 11 Dunbloor Road, near Kipling Avenue and Bloor Street West.

During the search officers got into an altercation with the victim and he was shot. He was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital, but was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Police arrested a second man, 23-year-old Ebony Osawe, of Toronto, and charged him with several weapons offences, including possession of a restricted firearm and careless storage of a firearm.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday Morning

The SIU investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury, death, and allegations of sexual assault.
