Police are searching for three suspects after a woman was shot to death during a home invasion in Markham.
Fifty-three-year-old Bich-Ha Pan was shot multiple times after the armed men stormed into her home on Helen Avenue around 10:30pm Monday night. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 57-year-old husband, Huei Hann Pan, was also shot as the intruders searched the couple's home for cash and valuables for approximately half an hour. He managed to make his way to a neighbour's house for help and is now in hospital in serious condition.
The couple’s 24-year-old daughter was also home during the invasion. She was tied up, but wasn’t hurt.
York Regional Police Chief Armand La Barge spoke at a news conference about the fatal home invasion Tuesday afternoon. He tried to calm frazzled nerves in the neighbourhood and said the crime appears to have been a random act.
"We’re going to do everything we can to solve this crime," said LaBarge “...That’s not the type of crime we would expect to see in a community like this.”
Authorities also showed surveillance footage captured on a camera at a nearby home that shows a vehicle parked near the victims' house.
