We are now getting a clearer and closer look at a man wanted for shoving a stranger onto the tracks at the Dundas West subway station last Saturday.
Police first revealed the incident on Thursday, after their investigation of the assault failed to turn up a suspect. It happened just before service was underway at 5:55am. An early arriving passenger had shown up on the platform when he was suddenly shoved from behind and landed on the tracks below.
A man was seen fleeing the scene, heading to the surface and authorities believe he may have hopped on the 504 streetcar, before exiting near Queen and Roncesvalles. But they have no idea who he is or why he committed the act.
The victim told officers he didn't know his attacker was or why he was shoved. Fortunately, service had yet to start and the man was able to scramble off the tracks and get back up on the platform, shaken up but unharmed.
Security cameras caught the suspect on the streetcar (below) and now new footage has emerged of him leaving the station.
Police tell
CityNews.ca that they don't know if he's homeless, but that they don't believe he was squatting or living in the station. They suspect he may have entered the underground by slipping in through a vacant bus platform.
The wanted man is described as:
- White,
- 20s,
- 5'6"-5'9",
- Stocky build,
- Shaved head.
He was wearing a plaid, hooded sweatshirt, a beige three-quarter-length coat, blue jeans and black shoes or boots.
The crime is the latest in a series of disturbing incidents that's making some passengers wonder about the overall safety of the system.
On Monday, a woman suffered a laceration after being
hit on the head as she got off a train at the Museum station
. Police arrested a suspect later in the day.
And two teens were
pushed in front of a train
February 13th, as they stood in the middle of the busy Dufferin subway station. One was able to slide under the platform but his friend wasn't as lucky - his foot was crushed by an oncoming train.
An alert TTC conductor followed the man and called police with his location.
