A New Democrat MP says her baby was ordered out of the House of Commons during voting this week.

Sana Hassainia, who represents a Quebec riding, says the Speaker issued the order against her infant son Skander-Jack, who is named after the late party leader Jack Layton.

MPs were about to vote on a matter related to abolishing the long-gun registry on Tuesday when the order came down.

She says the baby was not crying or creating a disturbance, though some MPs were gathered around taking pictures.

The office of Speaker Andrew Scheer denied Skander-Jack was ordered out of the chamber.

A spokeswoman says the Speaker only asked the MPs around Hassainia to maintain decorum before the vote.
