A former MP pleaded guilty to careless driving on Tuesday.
Two other charges against Rahim Jaffer were withdrawn.
Police pulled him over for allegedly speeding in Palgrave, just north of Toronto, on Sept. 10, 2009.
Jaffer, 38, admitted to speeding and was fined $500. He was also charged with cocaine possession and drunk driving, but those accusations were dismissed.
"I'm sure you recognize a break when you see one,” Judge Dough Maunder told Jaffer.
Jaffer, a former Conservative MP in Alberta, is now married to junior federal cabinet minister Helena Guergis. Guergis represents the riding of Simcoe-Grey. Jaffer represented Edmonton-Strathcona from 1997-2008.
