Detention Hearings For Tamil Migrants Continue

Detention hearings for Tamil migrants will continue on Tuesday.

The Immigration and Refugee Board hopes to process 75 people, 60 men and 15 women, by day’s end.

But going through all 492 refugee claims could take months

The MV Sun Sea arrived in British Columbia on Friday
.  Now, officials are trying to determine the identity of those on board.

The adults are being detained, while the minors – 49 children – are in the custody of the province’s children's ministry.

One person died during the voyage.

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said some refugees appear to have paid up to $50,000 each for passage to Canada.

It’s not yet known if the media will be allowed to attend the immigration hearings.

Reporters were barred from the proceedings on Monday.
