Hugh Burrill
Sports Anchor & Reporter, CityNews
Shortly after moving to Toronto, Hugh made the move to television from radio, landing a job at Citytv as a writer for Breakfast Television. He later became news producer, before being appointed Sports Specialist on CityNews. Hugh enjoys the autonomy of working at Citytv saying “Citytv allows us to be ourselves understanding the entertainment side of what it is that we do.” Some standout moments for Hugh include covering the World Cup in 2006; the Bills in Toronto Series; and Spring Training with the Jays.
Hugh grew up in the pristine landforms of Ottawa valley, where he began his media career as a radio reporter in Renfrew. From Ottawa he moved to North Bay to attend Canadore College for Broadcast Journalism while working as a sports director and morning show co-host at CHUR. He relocated to Toronto in 1993, working in radio, at Country 59, The Fan 590 and EZ Rock 97.3 before transitioning to television.
Hugh is a Habs fan first and foremost. Following that, he enjoys all sports, but highlights football and auto racing as his favourites. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and friends, skiing, golfing, and playing poker!
If Hugh was given the chance to interview anyone from history, dead or alive, his top choice would be Elvis Presley, (questioning him on what it was like being the biggest star on the planet and advising him to stick with green salads).
