Avery Haines

With her passion for story telling and her nearly 20 years of experience in radio and television - as reporter, anchor and host Avery Haines is a perfect fit for CityNews. Starting in radio while still in high school, Avery made the jump to television after attending the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson and spent time reporting and anchoring at CTV and here at Citytv. Avery’s work on the Discovery series Health on the Line and Medical Hotseat earned her multiple nominations and two Geminis for Best Television Talk Series. She also received RTNDA awards for best Canadian Radio Newscaster and Best Spot Reporter.
A travel enthusiast, Avery’s most recent adventure took her to Costa Rica, where she lived in the jungle with her family for almost two years, often and without water and electricity. According to Avery “these enriching experiences have given me an even greater understanding of the world and an enhanced desire to defend, empower and inform.” Whilst away from the camera Avery has been writing a book, publishing feature articles in Costa Rica and producing a radio documentary on the burgeoning gay rights movement in China.
Some facts you might not know about Avery is that she has slept in the red Sahara sands, been to the Mount Everest base camp and ranked second in a run from the Eiffel Tower to Versailles.
