With the release of new security footage Thursday, Toronto police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down two suspects wanted in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man one week ago.

John Kang was shot to death on Thurs., May 26 at a McDonald’s parking lot near Victoria Park and Finch Avenues around 10:15 p.m.

Det. Scott Whittemore described what was seen on the surveillance video at a news conference Thursday.

“The victim and his friend are met by two suspects. They walk off camera, they approach the victim’s friend’s car, and at that point, the suspects remove handguns from their waistbands and a demand for money is made,” Whittemore said.

“The victim refused that demand and was shot and killed.”

Kang had recently been arrested by York Regional Police for driving under the influence and drug possession, but Whittemore said he was unaware of these charges. He says Toronto police are looking at all possibilities.

“There are several angles we’re going to look at. It could be a straight street robbery.”

Kang’s friend drove him to the hospital, and was helped by at least three Good Samaritans.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying two male suspects seen in the security video.

They are described as:

#1

-Male, black
-18 or 19 years old
-5’6” – 5’7”, 120 to 125 lbs.
-Wearing a baseball cap

#2
