ROSTOCK, Germany -- Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., posted the best scores in four of the five rounds Saturday to claim the gold medal in the women's three-metre final at the season-opening FINA Grand Prix diving event.

Abel registered 353.40 points to finish ahead of China's Han Weng, who had 350.25. German Nora Subchinski was third with 320.55.

Three-time Olympic finalist Emilie Heymans of St. Lambert, Que., was fifth at 292.80.

"I'm very pleased with my performance," said Abel. "The judging here has been very tough but I had consistently strong marks all day and that is good for the confidence."

In the men's three-metre synchro event, Alexandre Despatie of Laval, Que., in his first competition in over a year due to a knee injury, and Regina's Reuben Ross were seventh.
