Tennis Canada announced Sunday that No. 1 singles player Milos Raonic will not play in the fourth rubber of Canada's Davis Cup first-round tie against France after experiencing some pain in his knee following Saturday's doubles loss. Frank Dancevic will take Raonic's place in the match-up against France's top player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

"After our doubles match yesterday I consulted with my team, and a team of doctors regarding some pain in my knee," said Raonic. "After extensive discussions, the doctors determined it is not in my best interest to play today. We are continuing to explore the reasoning behind the pain, and taking it day by day. Obviously I am extremely disappointed to not be able to play for my team today, but I will be cheering them on from the sidelines and want the focus to stay on winning this tie."
It will now be up to Dancevic to keep Canada's hopes alive as the team must win both of its singles matches today to upset the powerhouse French team. Dancevic has registered two prior wins over Top 10 players; Andy Roddick at Indianapolis in 2007 and David Nalbandian at Wimbledon in 2008. The fifth rubber, should it be necessary, is currently scheduled to pit Canada's No. 2 singles player Vasek Pospisil against France's Julien Benneteau.
"Obviously not having Milos play is a huge loss, but we have other extremely capable players that have worked hard all week to be ready for situations like this," said Canada's captain Martin Laurendeau. "That is why Davis Cup is a team event and we will keep the focus on the guys who need to play today. Next to Daniel Nestor, Frank is the guy on our team with the most Davis Cup experience. He knows what he's facing and what he needs to do and we believe he can do it."
The winner of this tie will take on the United States in the World Group quarterfinals in April while the losing nation will have to play a World Group play-off tie in September to try and retain its spot in the elite 16-team group for 2013.
