With temperatures expected to reach 31 degrees Sunday, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a heat alert, in effect until further notice.

Environment Canada is predicting Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will also be scorchers, with expected temperatures of 33 degrees all three days.

Dr. David McKeown, Toronto's medical officer of health, is asking the public to check on any family members or friends that may be vulnerable to the heat, especially senior citizens.

To escape this heat wave, try heading indoors to air conditioned public places like malls or libraries. Also, drink plenty of water or fruit juice.

Avoid strenuous outdoor activity and never leave the elderly, children or pets unattended in a car.
