Hot, Sticky Weather On Its Way

There’s a lot of weather on the way for Toronto residents: On Thursday, we’ll be dealing with humidity, heat, and the threat of thunderstorms.

But there’s one piece of good news: a smog advisory issued earlier in the week has been lifted.

Environment Canada said there was only a moderate risk of poor air quality. For most people, that means there’s no need to change your daily outdoor routine unless you experience symptoms like coughing and throat irritation.

That’s the upside.

The downside – depending on how you look at it – is that an Extreme Heat Alert issued on Tuesday remains in effect.

Dr. David McKeown, Toronto's medical officer of health, is asking the public to check on any family members or friends that may be vulnerable to the heat, especially senior citizens.

The mercury is expected to climb 28C and on top of that, a Humidex advisory is in effect. Environment Canada warns that it will feel much warmer due to the moisture in the air.

Finally, there’s a 60 per cent chance of showers.

To recap, Toronto, you need your sunscreen, your umbrella and possibly a portable fan as the summer weather continues.
