Task Force: Mission
The LiveableCity Task Force is a Citytv initiative aimed at promoting awareness and action on every level of our community. Both Citytv staff members and volunteers from within the community will be working together to reach out and make a difference in our community. We believe that change is possible and know that every gesture can be a very significant step in finding a solution.
Citytv's LiveableCity Task Force will be getting involved in many key events - and it is our hope that we can encourage you to do your part where you can. From participating in food drives to providing a safe shelter for the homeless, we believe that together we can make Toronto a better place for all of us to live.

Daily Bread Food Bank's Spring Food Drive: Help us fill a CityNews truck!
From April 10-28, the LiveableCity Task Force teamed up with the Daily Bread Food Bank and asked you to help us "fill a CityNews truck" with as many non-perishable items as possible. We asked you to make a donation at the MuchStore or visit us on April 20th at our live location (Highland Farms, 4750 Dufferin.) With your generous support, not only did we fill the CityNews truck, but we buried it-- with 13,000 pounds of nutritious food! In addition, you also helped us raise just under $2000 cash for the Daily Bread. Thanks to you, we were successful in helping the Spring Food Drive raise 525,000 pounds of food for the hungry, surpassing the Daily Bread's 500,000 pound goal!
Second Harvest's Lunch Money Day
February 23rd has been officially declared by the Mayor of Toronto as Lunch Money Day. This year, Citytv's LiveableCity Task Force teamed up with Second Harvest to help raise money in support of their food programs. Every day, Second Harvest collects perishable food that would otherwise go to waste and distributes it to 230 social service programs in the Metro Toronto area. On Thursday, February 23, staff were encouraged to brown bag their lunch and donate their lunch money to any one of the many collection cans that were placed in the building kitchens. We are thrilled to announce that, together, we collected $675.00! All money donated was matched by Citytv's LiveableCity Task Force bringing our contribution to a grand total of $1,350.00! Thanks so much to everyone who donated and made this day such a success... With a combined effort, it's easy to make a BIG difference.
The B.L.I.N.G (Bring Love In Not Guns) Summit: Black Youth Stand Up!
In January, the LiveableCity Taskforce worked with the B.L.I.N.G. Summit's Public Relations committee to help leverage their media relations efforts. With gun violence on the rise in Toronto, getting the word out to black youth has never been more important than now. The Taskforce's role was to support the Summit's publicity campaign by identifying key media outlets where their message would be most relevant, and to work with our internal contacts to ensure Citytv and CP24 were supporting the event with pre-event editorial support.
On January 28th, the day-long B.L.I.N.G. Summit featured a series of workshops grounded around taking a stand against violence and also featured a youth Music and Arts showcase as part of their evening program. Project B.L.I.N.G www.bringloveinnotguns.com was launched by the Black Youth Coalition Against Violence (BYCAV) on November 7th, 2005. This is a city-wide initiative aimed at mobilizing black youth to take a stand against the violence plaguing their communities.

Citytv Water Safety Day
With kids out of school and playing full-time, we wanted to increase awareness of water safey before they hit the waves. On Wednesday July 27, our Task Force hosted Citytv Water Safety Day and introduced The Lifesaving Society's new "Swim To Survive" program at Sunnyside Gus Ryder Pool. The program taught the essential skills required to survive an unexpected fall into water and provided the opportunity for children to learn the basics to survive near water. We had over 50 children get their skills assessed and despite some early rain showers, the Life Saving Society had the opportunity to share their safety messages.
