Karen Birch
Executive Director of Second Base Youth Shelter

If weren't for Karen Birch, homeless youth in Toronto would find it even more difficult to get out of the cold.

Since 1993, she's been Executive Director of the Second Base Youth Shelter in Scarborough. It is a 56 bed shelter for youth but also serves as a Drop-In Housing Information and Referral centre for young people aged 16 to 21.
Karen Birch also donates much of her free time to humanitarian causes. Currently she volunteers with the Scarborough Homelessness Committee and the Home Plate Social Housing Development Committee.
We met up with Karen Birch downtown.
