Omar Sachedina

Anchor, CP24; Reporter, "CityNews"

Omar Sachedina was bitten by the journalism bug at the early age of 12 after writing a letter to the editor of a local newspaper. Since then his work has appeared in the Vancouver Sun, The Province and CBC Radio. Omar gained his broadcasting experience interning at Global Television in Vancouver and Montreal, as well as CNN International in London, England. Most recently, Omar was a reporter for CTV News in Northern Ontario. He joined Citytv in July, 2006.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Omar's parents are from Uganda, with his family tracing roots to India. Curious about his East-African homeland, Omar recently traveled to Uganda on a PBS Frontline/World fellowship to produce a web documentary on the return of Indians after the 1972 Asian Expulsion. He's also reported on the HIV/AIDS crisis in Kenya for CBC.ca. Omar speaks Kutchi, Gujarati and French.

One of Omar's passions is travelling. Some of his favourite places are Bejing, Dubai, New York and London. However, Omar is proud to call Toronto home and appreciates the city's acceptance of multiculturalism. He also enjoys working out, watching movies and sampling Toronto's wide array of ethnic foods.
