Q. When I try to Sign Up, why is it that my username and password are not accepted?
A. Likely, the login name and/or public nickname and/or password you have chosen has been previously reserved by another member. As each member requires a unique login, public nickname and password, you will need to try again. Our online community has thousands of members, so this may take a few attempts!
If you still have trouble creating an account you are welcome to forward all the required administrative information to members and we'll do our best to get you set up. However, we can't promise preferred Usernames and Passwords.
Q. Why can't I enter any of the contests?
Q. Why does nothing happen when I click on 'contest' or 'join' buttons?
A. Many of our contests are displayed in "pop-up" windows. It is possible that your computer is running software that blocks such pop-ups. If you do have pop-up blocker software running, you still can allow pop-ups for our sites while keeping your pop-up blocker on.
Here's some information from Microsoft on how to allow pop-ups for specific websites in Internet Explorer:
How do I see pop-ups from a specific Web site?
The default settings for the pop-up blocker allow you to see pop-ups that are opened when you click a link or button on a Web site. There might be some Web sites that you visit on a regular basis, and you want to see the pop-ups displayed by those sites. Just follow the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer
On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
In the Address of Web site to allow box, type the address (or URL) of the Web site you want to see pop-ups from, and then click Add.
Newer versions of Internet Explorer now have an option on the toolbar where you can toggle to activate/deactivate pop-ups.
Q. Why am I getting so many error messages on your website or online in general?
A. Internet Explorer (and other web browsers) can run into problems if the cache and cookies (temporary Internet files) are not deleted on a regular basis. In many cases, things like registrations, signups, and redirects may not work properly if the cookies or cache are corrupted.
If you are experiencing site oddities, we suggest that you clear your web browser's cookies and cache. To do this, follow the steps below. Please Note: These steps are specific to Internet Explorer. For alternative browsers, (Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, etc.), the steps are similar, however you may wish to consult the Help menu for your particular browser,
Step 1
Clearing Cookies and Temporary Internet Files
Open Internet Explorer and select TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS from the top most menus.
Step 2
You will be presented with the GENERAL tab by default. On this first screen, click on the DELETE COOKIES button. Answer YES to the confirmation popup.
Step 3
Next, to clear your temporary files click on the DELETE FILES button from the above-mentioned GENERAL tab. You will be presented with a pop-up window where you should check off DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT and then click OK.
Step 4
Once temporary files have been deleted, you can also make sure that your web browser always gets the latest version of a given web page.
In order to do this click, on the SETTINGS button on the above-mentioned GENERAL TAB.
You will be presented with a new window. Make sure to click the RADIO button that says "Every visit to the page" and then click OK.
Step 5
It is also a good idea to delete your browser's history in order to make sure it is reset to factory settings. To do this click on the CLEAR HISTORY button on the GENERAL TAB and click OK.
You will then be presented with a pop-up window and will need to click the YES button.
Your web browser should now be working at optimum performance! To keep it running smoothly, just remember to follow these 5 easy steps!
Q. I don't remember my password and/or username. Can you send them to me?
A. No. Under no circumstances can we give out personal account information. The good news is that you can retrieve your Log In information. To retrieve your username and password, go to the Members area at any of our websites and click on the 'forget password?' option. Here, you can submit the email address associated with your account. Your password and username will automatically be sent to that email address.
Q. I have a new email address, can I change it on my account?
A. Sure you can, with our convenient profile membership management system! Login, and look for the Edit My Account link. Follow the easy steps to edit your email address and other account information.
Of course, if you don't remember your Username and Password AND your old email is inaccessible, you won't be able to access the Edit My Account section. In these special circumstances, with your permission, we will delete your account so that you can Sign Up again. If you think you need us to delete your account, send an email request to members. Please include as much information as possible; such as your username, birth date, old email address, cell phone number, etc. This information will enable us to verify that you are "you".
Q. Why do I need to fill out a profile?
A. Becoming a member allows you access to all the great tools and information on our various sites. Completing a member profile will enable you to enjoy everything from contests and newsletters to web radio, without ever having to enter further personal data.
Q. Why won't the membership registration page accept my postal code?
A. If your postal code is auto-filling in the form, you have Auto-Complete in your browser turned on. Whichever browser you're using, you'll need to either turn it off or clear that setting in your preferences.
Step 1
To stop your browser from completing forms you will need to click on the OPTIONS button that typically resides just below the browser's address bar.
You will be presented with a pop-up window and will need to uncheck AUTOFILL (middle of list) and click OK.
Q. Will my profile information remain private?
A. Absolutely. We have built a secure system to protect your profile information. Your profile information is only used for the purposes stated at the time of collection. We will not send you anything you haven't personally requested. In addition, we do our best to make sure you are aware of the implications of each action you take. You should also know that unless you have checked-off a box on the entry form that gives us specific permission to share your information with the Contest Sponsor, your information will remain private and is only used to run the contest. By selecting the "contests" tab above and then hitting the Sponsor Permissions button, you can check and modify all your Sponsor Permissions. By selecting the "contests" tab and hitting the Contest Tracker button, you can see which contests you have entered as well as your point accumulation (if applicable). For more information on privacy please review our Privacy Statement.
Q. Will my username and password ever expire?
A. If you do not use your username and password for a period of six (6) months, we will email you a notice advising you that your profile is about to expire. If you do not notify us that you wish to keep your username and password active, they will be deleted from our databases along with your personal information. In future, you would have to re-register with us again if you decided to sign up for something that required a profile. Please remember: when your information expires there is a chance that someone may choose your old username and / or password, in which case, you won't be able to choose the same ones again.
Q. I've signed up to receive newsletters via email. Why haven't I received any yet?
A. Newsletters are sent out on a monthly, or bi-weekly, schedule. If you have recently signed up for a newsletter, you may just need to wait until the next scheduled mailing. Otherwise, log in to your members profile and navigate to the Newsletter section. Here, you can confirm your subscription to any newsletter. If you have confirmed subscription but are still not receiving a particular newsletter, we suggest that you check your 'Bulk' or 'Junk' folders. It's possible that your email program is mistaking the newsletters as junk-mail. At this point, you may want to check your SPAM blocking software. When you investigate your SPAM blocking utilities, you may be able to specify our newsletter in an exception list. You can also contact your ISP to see if the SPAM blocking is occurring on the ISP server. Some SPAM blockers work by filtering out certain words or content, and others block based on the sender's address. You will need to determine which type of blocker is running on your machine or ISP to resolve the problem.
Q. How can I unsubscribe to something or change / delete my profile?
A. You can change / delete your profile simply by selecting the "my profile" tab, above. Then select the Edit Profile button. Here, you can either change your profile information or click the link that will delete your profile. To unsubscribe to newsletters please select the "newsletters" tab above and uncheck any box corresponding to any newsletter you no longer wish to receive.
Q. I don't feel comfortable entering my exact birthday - can I just enter the month and year?
A. Unfortunately no. We require your entire birthday, day, month and year to ensure that you meet the age requirement to enter and win our contests. As well, providing us with your complete date of birth allows us to verify your identity in case there is ever an account issue we need to resolve.
Q. How often can I enter each contest?
A. Entry guidelines differ from contest to contest. Some contests do have restrictions on how many times you can enter and collect points. These guidelines are clearly outlined in the Rules and Regulations of each contest. See the next FAQ answer.
Q. Where can I find contest Rules and Regulations?
A. Individual contest Rules and Regulations are located within each contest. The Rules and Regulations are accessible from the start page of each contest via a link. When you begin the entry process we also provide a link to the Rules and Regulations, as well as a check box to ensure that you have reviewed them. Rules and Regulations are clearly marked and are always apparent.
Q. What are contest points for?
A. How points are used can vary from contest to contest. To find out exactly what points can be put towards, check the Rules and Regulations for the contest(s) you have entered.
Q. What do I do if I think someone is cheating or taking advantage of a contest's point system?
A. If you have reason to believe that the point accumulation of another player is unfair, you should report it to customer services at members. We will investigate the occurrence and take appropriate action.
Q. Why do the age requirements differ for each contest?
A. The age requirements change for different contests because prizing and sponsorship varies for each contest. To be sure about specific age requirements, read the Rules and Regulations for each contest you enter. The minimum age for all of our contests is 13.
Q. How will I know if I have won a contest?
A. The procedure for how winners are notified is explained as you enter each contest.
Q. I live in Quebec, why can't I enter a Citytv contest in Ontario?
A. When a contest is run in Quebec, it has to go through a separate body called the "Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries" before ANYTHING can be given away. This board is set up by the Quebec provincial government and imposes a tax on prize value. Anyone who runs a contest in Quebec has to give the Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries 10% of the prize value. Not only is this tax commission expensive, but also involves weeks of applications, justifications, and reports. Often, our sponsors can't wait 4-6 weeks to get approval from this body. So even though we would love to include contestants from Quebec, these restrictions present too many challenges.
Q. I do not live in Canada, what can I sign up for?
A. Welcome to all our international members! Unfortunately, you are not eligible for any of our contests, as they are only open to Canadian residents. But wait! You can still sign up for a Quick Membership to receive our newsletters. Go to the "newsletters" tab above and pick and choose to your heart's content.
Q. All right, I have read all of this and I still have a problem or a question about an online contest, or my membership. What should I do now?
A. You should email your comments and questions to members and we will do our best to help!
